The Legend of Moody

He had one horn. He was, in fact, a jolly goat. Everything else — the company, the trailer, the Fan Club — is what happens when you take that seriously.

Moody on the plywood in 2021, orange beanie, one horn, another goat wandering the framing behind him

Washington, 2021. New floor. Old pine. Moody clocked in without being asked.

Most junk companies buy a cartoon animal and hope you remember the phone number. We did not go hunting for a mascot. We already had one. His name was Moody. He had one horn. If you have ever stood next to a goat who decided the job site was his, you already know the rest of this story.

First in line

The photograph is from a 2021 build in Washington. The floor is still plywood. The walls are still a rumor. There is a ladder in the back, a truck through the trees, another goat pretending to be useful in the framing. Moody is not pretending. He is on the deck. He is wearing an orange beanie because someone loved him enough to keep his ears warm and he loved them enough to keep the hat. He is looking at the camera the way he looked at every pile, every bucket, every tennis ball: first.

That is the whole brand if you strip the paint off it. First in line for attention. Genuinely interested in the work. Protective of the people who brought him. A little bit legendary, and not because we wrote it on a truck.

The tennis-ball years

Moody’s official sport was tennis, in the sense that a tennis ball is the correct size for a goat who has opinions. The first ball was plain, faded, and always damp. It lived wherever he dropped it last — usually in the exact path a human needed to walk.

Then the ball got tape. Then the tape got replaced. Then someone — and we are not naming names, because glory should be shared — wrapped a fresh one in glitter tape. It announced itself from across the yard. You could lose a grey ball in straw. You could not lose a glitter-tape ball. Moody approved. The glitter version became the house toy, the one you did not accidentally throw in the trash, the one that survived a season of teeth and weather and still looked like a party.

That evolution is not a joke we tell at the dump. It is how this company thinks. Start with the simple thing that works. Improve it because you actually use it. Make it impossible to lose. Keep the one that has been through something.

Curiosity is the job

Goats inspect. That is not a branding workshop sentence. Moody walked onto wet plywood, into framing, up to the edge of whatever you were doing, and asked with his whole face whether it was interesting. He did not wait to be invited. He also did not wreck the work. There is a difference between chaos and curiosity. He knew it.

When we haul a garage in Garland or an estate leftover in Plano, that is the posture we want on the driveway. Interested. Present. Not too proud to look at the ugly pile. Not so silly that a widow has to manage our personality on top of the job. Moody could be a lot. He was never careless with the people who fed him.

The old goat

The other half of the name is not a goat. It is a man with a beard who has been called an old goat long enough that it stuck. Twenty-five years of running businesses will do that. Local roots. A wife who has seen every version of the plan. A truck. Early jobs that were not glamorous. A future that points at countryside north of Dallas when the work and the land line up.

Moody plus the old goat is the company. A competitor can buy clipart with two horns and the word junk. They cannot steal a one-horned goat named Moody and a bearded operator without looking like a knockoff. We keep the one horn. We keep the name. We do not flatten this into “we like goats.”

What this is not

Jolly Goat Junk is the junk company. If you came here for a couch, a fridge, or a garage that has not held a car since the last ice storm, you are in the right place. Moody would have started with the pile, not a speech.

The Fan Club

People who meet Moody — even as a photograph, even as a mark on a charcoal truck — tend to want a little of that standing in their week. Moody’s Fan Club is the simple version: email or text, a standing discount on junk removal, and first word when we have a window. No carnival. No fake points. Just the goat’s people getting the pile hauled for less because they showed up.

Still on the deck

The Washington photo is years old. The plywood is a house now, or it isn’t — that is someone else’s story. Ours is this: the mascot was real, the curiosity is the method, and the junk still has to leave the driveway. If you send a picture of the pile, we will look at it the way he would have. First. Interested. Ready to work.

Moody already clocked in.
